An Anniston woman trying to save her dog was killed Friday night by a hit-and-run driver around 8:25 p.m. on Eulaton Road two miles west of Anniston.
Bridgett Craft, 48, was fatally injured when she tried to reach her dog, which had just been hit by an unknown vehicle, according to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown.
Brown said Craft was struck by what a witness described as a maroon Z-71 Chevrolet truck with dual exhaust pipes. The truck also was described as a side-step truck.
Craft died from blunt-force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, Brown said.
State troopers are investigating the case.
